Southern Silver Exploration Corp. reported today it has named a recently consolidated group of mining claims in a 25 kilometre long mineralized trend in Jalisco State, Mexico as the Minas de Ameca Project. The company said it is advancing exploration on multiple highly prospective targets in the region and has just completed a preliminary reconnaissance drill program designed to guide a more comprehensive drilling campaign in the spring of 2007.
The newly named “district” encompasses a 337 sq. km claim package assembled in part through option agreements between Southern Silver and Fury Explorations Ltd. (see NR-10-06) and Soltoro Ltd. (see NR-01-07) together with the purchase from the Mexican Government of the El Magistral claim which includes a historic producing mine from which copper was extracted, with some gold credits, from chalcopyrite, bornite and oxide ores.
The district is located along the western margin of the Sierra Madre Occidental terrane. Geological reconnaissance has identified several strongly mineralized, copper-rich breccias located at volcanic-intrusive contacts and numerous structurally controlled, quartz-hematite vein systems which occur along a 25 km long mineralized trend extending southeast through the project area. Historical workings consist of copper with gold rich deposits formed as tabular to pipe-like bodies within tourmaline rich intrusives.
The company reported today that a preliminary two-hole, 414 metre RC/diamond drill program has been completed on the San Luis Au-Cu vein target of the Magistral I land package recently optioned from Fury Explorations Ltd. Additionally, the company said, 1,770 metres have now been drilled in testing the La Sorpresa target. Assay results from this round of drilling are pending.
San Luis Target
Surface sampling at the San Luis prospect returned widespread anomalous gold and copper values over a 400 metre-long strike-length and up to a 150 metre width. Higher gold grades (from .4g/t to 1.7g/t Au) were returned from quartz-hematite veins and breccias which form resistant exposures along the strike of the prospect. The two recently completed drill holes tested only a 100 metre portion of the total exposed strike-length and to depths of less than 160 metres. The mineralizing system remains open along strike and at depth.
Magistral/La Soledad/Quila
Other high priority targets include the El Magistral Mine vein systems and the La Soledad copper-gold breccias. Follow-up mapping and detailed sampling at the El Magistral Mine and the La Soledad prospects has started with the aim of identifying drill ready targets for additional drilling scheduled for early spring 2007.
Other geophysical and geochemical targets on the Magistral 1 and Quila concessions are currently being reviewed as part of the winter 2007 surface program.
