Southern Silver Exploration Corp. said today that an aggressive exploration/drilling season is now underway on it’s three principal exploration projects which are scheduled for drilling starting in the spring and early summer of 2007. Drill ready targets include two prospects in the recently acquired Minas de Ameca project located in Jalisco, Mexico. Additional drill ready targets are identified at the Pinabete project, Chihuahua, Mexico and at the Tombstone South project in southeastern Arizona. The total budget for this work is anticipated to be in excess of US$2.0 million. Up to 8,000 metres of drilling is expected to be completed through 2007 dependent on drill rig and crew availability. Minas de Ameca, Mexico Ground reconnaissance and sampling continue to advance multiple prospects within the Minas de Ameca claim block through to the final target selection process. Up to twelve drill holes totaling approximately 2,500 metres will test a series of Au-Cu-enriched quartz-hematite veins in the San Luis and Cerro de la Cruz prospect areas where preliminary drilling in January 2007 returned >1 g/t Au and 0.5% Cu over >4m estimated true widths and strong down-dip and easterly vectors for follow-up drilling. An additional 2,500 metres of drilling is anticipated at the Magistral Mine prospect. The Magistral vein is exposed on surface for over 400 metres strike-length with the main vein averaging between 3 to 10 metres thick. Mexican Government records indicate high-grade gold and copper ores were mined from the vein system over a 10 year period in the early 1900’s and were accessed via a network of shafts and adits totaling 750 metres with production from an on-site mill. Operations were halted by the Mexican Revolution and the property has seen only limited testing by modern exploration techniques. Final drill placement is pending the completion of detailed mapping and sampling of the vein system and the western extension of the mineralized structure. Up to 10 to 12 drill holes are anticipated during the initial testing of this mineralized zone Other geophysical and geochemical targets on the Minas de Ameca concessions are currently being reviewed as part of the winter 2007 surface program. The Minas de Ameca project encompasses a 322 sq. km claim package assembled in part through option agreements between Southern Silver and Fury Explorations Ltd. (TSX.V-FUR) and Soltoro Ltd. (TSX.V-SOL) together with the purchase from the Mexican Government of the El Magistral claim (see NR-10-06 and NR-01-07). Pinabete, Mexico Two to three drill holes totaling approximately 1,000 metres will test the potential for Ag-Pb-Zn-rich replacement bodies and skarn along the margins of a large rhyolite stock exposed to the northeast of the previously tested mineral horizons. Previous work on this target identified a large AMT geophysical anomaly and was tested with one drill hole by the previous owner. Drilling encountered altered and pyritized volcanic stratigraphy but failed to adequately test carbonate horizons along the margins of the felsic intrusive. Work is scheduled for mid to late summer 2007. Tombstone South, Arizona Six to eight drill holes totaling approximately 2,000 metres will test for shallow structurally controlled Ag-Pb-Zn-rich replacement targets and deeper Au-Cu skarn/porphyry related targets at the Tombstone South project, located 120 kilometres from Tucson in southeastern Arizona. Only three previous drill holes have tested below 150 metres depth within this 1.5 kilometre x 5 kilometre corridor located immediately to the southwest of the historic silver-lodes of the Tombstone Mining District. The company is adequately financed to fund exploration costs having recently completed a $6.5 million unit financing.
